In 1999 Scott Balson was arrested for exposing a senior Labor Member of Parliament in Queensland, Bill D'Arcy, as a pedophile (he was subsequently imprisoned for seven years). Balson's book "Enemy of the state" which detailed the manner in which the police fabricated evidence against him should serve as a warning to Queensland Police about trying to subjugate a whistle blower. Unsurprisingly News Ltds Courier Mail newspaper were central to this debacle following Scott's publication of the book "Murder by Media" (exposing Murdoch's Courier Mail's dishonest reporting several months before).
